Andhra govt. to develop Knowledge Economy Zone Soon

Chief Minister Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday has revealed that the state government of Andhra Pradesh is willing to create a Knowledge Economy Zone-the first-of-its-kind initiative in the world.

  • Naidu while addressing the Collectors said that the main objective to create KEZ is to have knowledge driven economic development. The KEZ will be developed along with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
  • The works will start from June and the first phase of the zone is expected to be completed by 2017. For the first phase, 10 acres of land was required but by the year 2019, Mr. Naidu said, the zone would be expanded to 100 acres. Also, Harvard University and the World Economic Forum would be assisting. He also said that the District Collectors should work on plans to develop KEZs in every district.
  • CM Naidu also revealed that the government already had plans to establish Towers Corporations as a joint venture of the state government and the private bodies. This proposal will be ready in a week’s time. He also said that the government is expecting 49% share in generated revenues through the Towers Corporation.
  • CM Naidu revealed that the work for the fibre grid project of providing Internet, Telephone and Cable TV connection to every household through fibre line is progressing fast and 23,000 km cable network will be laid by June, 2016. Also, the state government has allocated Rs. 333 crore for the project. Nearly 130 lakh households will get benefit from the project.
