Annapurna Yojana: Bihar Government

There are many old age persons who have their own houses but they don’t earn much for their living. This scheme is for the benefits of those old age people. Annapurna Yojana is sponsored by central government, which is executed by Food Supply and Commerce Department of Government of Bihar. The District Magistrates have been nominated as the nodal officer for its execution at the District level and Gram Panchayats have been made responsible for monitoring and supervision of this scheme. The Details of the scheme are enlisted below:

Eligibility:

  • The age of the applicant (male or female) should be 65 years or above;
  • The applicant must be ‘destitute’, having little or no regular means of subsistence from his/her own source of income or through financial support from family members or other sources.
  • The applicant should not be in receipt of pension under NOAPS or the State Pension Scheme.

Benefits:

Under this scheme, 10 kilograms of food grain (six kilograms of wheat and four kilograms of rice) is provided free of cost per month to destitute older persons. The Municipalities are responsible for operating the Scheme in their respective areas.

Nodal Agency: Municipality of that Area.

How to Avail Benefits:

Beneficiaries in rural areas are identified and selected by the Gram Sabhas and the Gram Panchayats. The lists of beneficiaries selected by the Gram Sabhas are displayed by the Gram Panchayats. The Gram Panchayats distribute the entitlement cards to the beneficiaries at Gram Sabha meetings.
