Development of Smart Cities in Coastal areas should be based on multi hazard resilient features



  • National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) after a 10-month-long study on the Cyclone HudHud submitted a report stating that the smart cities being built in coastal areas should be designed based on multi hazard resilient features.
  • NDMA recommended Urban Development Ministry to integrate the Smart cities disaster management plan with distric disaster management plan.
  • Further in order to save lives it proposed the concept of’Early Warning to the Last Mile’ under which it suggested to have systems to send warnings to mobiles of fishermen and people living in surrounding area, and a database of pregnant women in their 4th trimester be to shift them to emergency care in hospitals before the cyclone strikes
