To pacify the agitating groups of Gujarat state for reservations could succeed at last as Anandi Ben, Chief Minister, has announced on Friday, 10th of April, 10% reservations to all the economically backward classes of the state. All the economically backward people below the income group of 6.00lacs per annum, in the upper classes will be benefited by this move.
The government will issue an ordinance on 1st of May, the formation day of the state, and it will come into affect for the beginning of the next academic year i.e. June, 2016 on wards. To keep the agitators in merry mood, the scholarship program announced during October,2015, named Miukhya Mantri Swalambhana Yojana, for EBCs will continue . However there is a legal hurdle in implementing this promise and how far the state government could come over it. As per Supreme court judgment the reservations should not exceed 49% and the state government is confident of getting legal clearance from High Court and Supreme court.
There is a mixed opinion among the agitating groups. They insisting for release of Mr. Hardik Patel from the jail and to increase the income veiling from 6.00lakhs to 10.00lakhs. The Patidars who constitute around one sixth of the total population of the state, will get more advantage out of this announcement.
