Indian Airforce to procure a batch of SPICE 2000 guided bombs

Indian Air Force (IAF) signed a deal with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to procure a batch of SPICE 2000 guided bombs.

  • The “SPICE” (Smart, Precise Impact, Cost-Effective) is an Israeli-developed, EO/GPS-guided guidance kit for converting air-droppable unguided bombs into precision guided bombs.
  • A derivative of the “Popeye” (AGM-142 Have Nap) air-to-surface missile, the “Spice” is a product of Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
  • SPICE can overcome errors in locating target, GPS jamming and also reduces collateral damage.
  • Each bomb’s memory may be loaded with up to 100 different targets, complete with their image (usually acquired by imagery intelligence) and geographical coordinates.
