Social Security Scheme for workers in unorganized sector

According to the survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) during 2011-12, the total employment in both organised and unorganised sector in the country was of the order of 47 crores. Out of this, about 8 crores were in the organised sector and the balance 39 crores (which is about 83% of the total work force) in the unorganised sector.

Objective :

To provide social security benefits to workers

Eligibility :

  • Self-declaration by him or her confirming that he or she is an unorganised worker
  • Every unorganised worker shall be registered by the District Administration

Benefits :

  • State Governments are mandated to register the Unorganized Workers and to provide benefits of welfare schemes running in their state.
  • It also has three basic security scheme:
  • Life and disability cover
  • Health and maternity benefits
  • Old age protection
