Solar Pump Set Scheme For Agriculture

In order to promote the use of non conventional energy in the agriculture sector, the Telangana government has constituted a six-member committee headed by State Energy Secretary Arvind Kumar to prepare modalities for the new solar pump set scheme being launched soon in the State.

The members of the committee are State Finance Secretary, TSGENCO and TSSPDCL (Southern Power Distribution Company Limited) Chairman and Managing Directors, Commissioner for Agriculture department and the Executive Engineer of the TNREDCL (Telangana New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation  Limited). The officials of the Energy department said that the Committee would prepare modalities in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).  The Solar policy adopted recently by the T government said that all the existing agricultural pump sets (around 20 lakh) would be replaced with solar powered ones in a phased manner with the assistance of the Union government.

The government already informed the Centre about the initiatives that were taken to bring the State under PFA (Power For All, 24×7) scheme which includes conversion of pump sets into solar pump sets. The officials said it required at least Rs 5,000 crore for the gigantic task. The new scheme would be launched next year if the Centre agreed to provide financial and logistic support to the State.
