Cabinet approves direct release of wages to MGNREGA workers

News:

• In an effort to prevent delay in payments to workers under the rural employment guarantee scheme, union cabinet has approved direct benefit transfer to beneficiaries of the MNREGA workers.
• The rural development ministry will release the money directly into the State Employee Guarantee Funds  once a finance order has been generated.
• The ministry, had also proposed direct payment of wages to beneficiaries from the Centre instead of multiple layered channels involving the states’ finance and rural departments.
