News:
- HRD Ministry would soon come out with a set of four key parameters, expected to be ‘teaching-learning’, ‘academic performance’, ‘outreach’ and ‘impact’ of the institute nationally and globally, for ranking of Indian institutes across streams.
- It was chaired by both higher education and school education secretaries and attended by vice-chancellors of some central universities and IIT directors.
- The government had constituted the panel last year to evolve India-specific ranking against the backdrop of mounting criticism that no Indian institute finds a place among the top in the global ranking list.
- The rankings will cover all institutes of the country and are likely to be divided based on an urban and a rural ranking, once the pilot run for these is successful.
