India with over 220 million smartphone users has surpassed the USA to become the second largest smartphone market in the world in terms of active unique smartphone users. According to a report of Counterpoint Research, Smartphone shipping has also increased to 23.3% and has touched the 100 million units in 2015 compared to 81.1 million units in 2014.
- However, the report said that the world’s largest democracy still has a long road to achieve its desire goal as the smartphone incursion of the country’s total population is still below 30%.
- Nevertheless, with growing adoption of 4G LTE devices, smartphone shipping has grown from 15% to 25.3 million units during the last 3 months of 2015. Smartphone demands have also grown in the holiday season.
- At the end of 2015, Samsung emerged as the leading dealer of smartphone in the market with 28.6%, followed by homegrown Micromax with 14.3%. In terms of total market share of smartphone and other feature phones, Samsung again came first with 23.6% share followed by Micromax again with 13.7%.
