- The government is considering a proposal that will make it incumbent on households to hire domestic workers through a placement agency as part of an initiative aimed at ensuring basic rights and better conditions including paid leave and other benefits for an estimated 3 crore people in the unorganised sector.
- Those hired outside the placement system will be treated as bonded labour and employers will be penalised accordingly.
- Employees and employers will have to sign a contract that lists standard practices which both sides will have to abide by.
- Other key element of the proposal include proper accommodation.
