Draft of National Medical Device Policy

News:

• Government of India developed a draft NMDP-2015, it presents as a landmark policy initiative towards making India self-reliant in the medical device development field by promoting Research & Development, Innovation and Manufacturing in India.
• The objective is to strengthen the Make in India drive in medical device sector by reducing the dependence on imports and setting up a strong base for medical devices especially those having critical implications in terms of affordability and availability for patients.
• Elimination of Import Duty on Material and Manufacturing Equipment, setting up of institutional framework, establishing pricing controls,and its effects on exports, global companies and local manufacturing, current scenario of pricing of medical devices and its development are included under NMDP.
