India and US moving closer to sign LSA deal – access of each other military bases

India has signaled a positive response to US proposal that will allow both nations to access to each other military bases and ports. Many foreign policy experts see it as –  the opening of this pact as a new era of military cooperation between the two countries. Previous governments were skeptical to forge this kind of deal that could be seen as an alliance in international arena.

The proposed pact would be known as the Logistic Support Agreement. It would allow both sides to make changes in each other facilities if required to smoothen the conduct of military exercises and further needs. This proposal has come at a time when US wants to secure a strategic partner in Indian Ocean due to escalating tensions in South China Sea. On the other hand, India hopes to import high end technology products by forging this agreement.
