News:
- Based on a complaint by Kapil Kumar, professor of history in Indira Gandhi National Open University, HRD ministry has instituted an inquiry into allegations of malpractices going back to 1970’s in the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) and also sought a review of its functioning.
- Kumar was member-secretary of ICHR between October 2003 and July 2004 and the complaint is giving details of projects that were never completed but for which historians allegedly took compensation from ICHR.
- The inquiry will also look into reasons of delay of two projects – Towards Freedom and Dictionary of Social, Economic and Administrative Terms in Indian/South Asian Inscriptions.
