The home ministry’s proposal before the Union Cabinet on extending the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) till 2017 involves preparation of analytical reports for the first time to understand pattern of crime taking place in different parts of India.

The proposal also involves integrating CCTNS applications with e-courts and e-prison applications so that all three systems are linked electronically and data exchange takes place instantaneously.

CCTNS citizen portal will provide online services like any victim of crime will be able to report the crime after registering in the citizen portal with a onetime password-based verification on his mobile number.

The portal will also offer an avenue for citizens to lodge grievances against police or give anonymous tips regarding impending crimes or criminals.

The government will also be offering details of legal services and citizen rights on the portal, the National Legal Services Authority will handle this to enable citizens to apply for such services.

Citizens will also be able to apply for Victim Compensation Fund on the portal for various kinds of losses or injuries, a scheme notified by states.
