Govt. releases Pension Benefits to above 2 lakh pensioners: OROP Scheme

The central government today has announced that it has disbursed revised pension benefits as well as arrears under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme to over 2 lakh pensioners for service/disability pension.

  • According to Defence Ministry, the Defence Pension Disbursing Offices (DPDOs) under the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) has already released pension benefits to 2.2 lakh (2,21,224) defence pensioners. However, an official statement from Defence Ministry read that the amount along with first instalment of arrears has been released and credited to the accounts of these pensioners on March 1, 2016”.
  • The government will credit the new benefits of pensions for remaining 1.4 lakh pensioners (1,46,335) and by end of March. The banks are also simultaneously processing the revised pension benefits.
  • The total increased amount that has been released for OROP is Rs. 7,488.70 crore whereas total amount on arrears which will be paid for 1st July 2014- 31st December, 2015 amounts to Rs. 10,925.11 crore. Simultaneously, people below other ranks (PBOR) family pensioners will get around Rs. 6,405.59 crore.
  • Also, the statement has said that due to increase in the pension budget this year, the added liability for the present financial year 2015-2016 will be around Rs. 4,721.34 crore thereby increasing the defence pension liability to Rs 64,959.34 crore from Rs 60,238 crore for 2015-2016.
