India clears US$4.74 billion defence purchase

  • India’s defence ministry has cleared the purchase of military equipment worth $ 4.74 billion, including 4 long-range patrol aircraft from US aerospace giant Boeing.
  • The Defence Acquisition Council, which approves big-ticket purchases, also approved an order for 428 air defence artillery guns.
  • U.S. displaced traditional ally Russia as India’s top supplier of armaments in 2013 and Washington and New Delhi renewed their 10-year Defence Framework Agreement.
